THE 7 ALTARS BUILT BY ABRAHAM, ISAAC AND JACOB | SUN 23-02-2025 | ELBETHEL : FRESH START SUNDAY SERVICE
● Genesis 35:7 And Jacob built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
● After a tumultuous period marked by familial strife and conflict, Jacob responds to God's call to return to Bethel and build him an altar there (verse 1). Bethel is a place of deep spiritual importance to Jacob being where he first met God ( Genesis 28:10-22).
● This return signifies a renewal, not only in Jacob's relationship with God but also within his family, as he guides them in discarding foreign idols and recommitting themselves to the Lord (*verses 2*).
When they got there, Jacob, following the divine instruction, built an altar and named it ELBETHEL
● Building this new altar was not merely a physical endeavor; it was like getting a fresh start. This altar was a powerful declaration of Jacob's intention to reconnect with his spiritual roots (his first love), to heal from past wounds, and to reaffirm his covenant God.
