"FIGHTING THE ANTI-WORSHIP SPIRIT OF HEROD IN THE CHURCH"
While reading my Bible, I came across this statement from Herod that made me think deeply about an evil spirit attacking worship in the church.
In Matthew 2: 8 we read the following:
"And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found [him], bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also."
I) What are the characteristics of the anti-worship spirit of Herod?
From this text, we learn the following concerning Herod
1) Herod heard clearly and knew from Scriptures that the Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem.
2) Herod is not ready to leave his glory and the comfort of his palace to go to worship the Lord, yet he encourages others to go.
3) Herod is not moved with faith and by the Word of God. He wants accurate information before going to worship.
4) Herod said with his mouth that he would like to worship the Lord, but he never meant it because in his heart, he was planing not worship but murder.
II) The anti-worship spirit of Herod is still at work in our churches today ...
a) Herod is in the Church and listens to teachings Sunday after Sunday, week after week. He is regular. He is even present in the church's departments. He may also be a pastor, deacon, teacher, evangelist, prophet.
b) Herod in church encourages others to do, but does nothimg himself. He encourages others to pray, to fast, to give, to love others, to be obedient, but is never ready to do the same because he has things that he clings to and is not ready to forsake.
c) Herod in church has no faith and does not trust God. He is Cartesian. His head works more than his heart. Before believing or committing, he wants to see, he wants to feel, he wants to touch, he wants to have evidence, he does not want to take risks for the sake of his faith.
d) Herod in churh is hypocrit. He says one thing, but does exactly the opposite. He speaks for the purpose of pleasing, but his heart is far from his mouth. He laughs with you, but plans your death in his heart.
III) What is the danger of such spirit ?
a) When Herod appears, the star disappears.
b) When the wise men separate from Herod, the star reappears.
IV) What to do to be free from this spirit ?
If there is the spirit of Herod in your heart, kill him with repentance. God seeks those who will worship him in spirit and in truth, not in flesh and in lie.

I. GOD HAS POWER TO TURN THE VILE INTO GLORIOUS
Philippians 3:21
“He shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”
II. GOD HAS POWER TO TURN THOSE WHO ARE REJECTED INTO A STRONG NATION
Micah 4:7
“I will change those who are lame into a faithful people. I will change those who are forced away into a strong nation." The LORD will rule them on Mount Zion now and forever.”
III. GOD HAS POWER TO CHANGE THE DESERT INTO LAKES
Psalm 107:35
“He changes deserts into lakes and dry ground into springs.”
IV. GOD HAS POWER TO CHANGE THE ROCK INTO A POOL
Psalm 114:8
“He turns a rock into a pool filled with water and turns flint into a spring flowing with water.”
V. GOD HAS POWER TO TURN THE MOURNING INTO DANCING
Psalm 30:11
“You have changed my sobbing (mourning, moaning) into dancing. You have removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy”
VI. GOD HAS POWER TO TURN A BLASPHEMER, A PERSECUTOR AND AN INJURIOUS INTO A MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL
1Timothy 1:13
I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did [it] ignorantly in unbelief.
