⏩ COVENANT OF MARVELS ⏪ DAY 10 "EVERYTHING JESUS DOES IS WONDERFUL" (MARK 7:37)

SCRIPTURES

"... His name shall be called Wonderful ... " (Isaiah 9:6)

"They were completely amazed and said again and again, “Everything he does is wonderful. He even makes the deaf to hear and gives speech to those who cannot speak.” (Mark 7:37 NLT)

KEY STATEMENT

IN THIS TEXT, Isaiah, by the Spirit of God, is prophesying concerning the birth of Jesus, the coming Messiah.

When Isaiah says, "His name shall be called Wonderful", the adjective “wonderful” is the same Hebrew word used for “wonder” or “miracle”, meaning not that we would address Him as Wonderful, but that He should be Wonderful.

It also means that Jesus Christ the coming Messiah would exhibit qualities answering to that name: He would be a miracle-working, wonder-working God. He means in other words that:
  • “His Name shall be called Marvelous”
  • “His Name shall be called Surprise”
  • “His Name shall be called Miraculous”

Everything concerning Jesus was only marvellous from his conception to his ascension.

A. - At 12 years old, Jesus was already displaying an unusual understanding of Scriptures causing the doctors to marvel at him.
The Bible says that "all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers." (Luke 2:47)

B. - When Jesus was speaking, people marveled at the words coming out of his mouth.
In John 7:46, the Bible says, "The officers answered, Never man spake like this man."
In Luke 4:22, it is written, "And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son?"
In Mark 6:2, it is written, "And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing [him] were astonished, saying, From whence hath this [man] these things? and what wisdom [is] this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

C. - When Jesus was silent, even his silence caused Pilate to marvel.
In Mark 15:5, the Bible says, "But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled."

D. - When Jesus was sleeping in the midst of the storm,  even his sleep caused his disciples to marvel at him.
It is written in Mark 4:38 "And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?"

E. - When Jesus died, the soldier as well as Pilate marveled at his death.
It is written in Mark 15:44  "Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling [unto him] the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead."
It is written in Luke 23:47 "Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man."

F. - Jesus was operating at a different level of wisdom, knowledge and understanding causing people to marvel at his answers.
In Mark 12:17, Jesus was tested by his enemies who wanted to trap him. But the Bible says, "Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they marvelled at him."
The same happened in Luke 20:26 where the Bible says, "And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace."
In John 7:15, the Bible says concerning Jesus' knowledge and insight, "The Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?"

G. - Jesus performed numerous miracles, signs and wonders which were all heavily and wheightly marvelous

* People marvelled when he resurrected the dead
Mark 5:42 "And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was [of the age] of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment."

* People marvelled when he opened the ears of the deaf and the mouth of the mute.
Mark 7:37 "And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak."

* The disciples marvelled at the miracle of the draught of the fishes.
Luke 5:9 "For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken"
* The disciples of Jesus were astonished and marvelled at the power of the Word of Jesus who withered the fig tree instantly.
Matthew 21:20 "And when the disciples saw [it], they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!"
* When Jesus rebuked the wind and the sea, the disciples in the boat marvelled at his power and authority.
The Bible says in Mark 4:39 "And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm."
It is written in Mark 4:41 : "And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"
