🔵 When a child pushes your buttons and that familiar bubble of anger starts to rise, your brain goes into "fight or flight" mode. In that exact split second, you need a mental circuit-breaker.
🔵 Here are three simple, one-word anchors you can silently whisper to yourself, backed by the wisdom of God's Word.
🔵 "𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲"
Before you let a single word cross your lips, force yourself to wait. Giving yourself just three seconds of silence prevents an emotional reaction and allows you to choose a godly response instead.
The Bible says, “Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” — James 1:19
🔵 "𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿"
Reacting makes you a victim. Responding makes you a victor. Matching your child's high, chaotic energy with a loud voice will only make the fire burn hotter. Intentionally dropping your volume down to a whisper instantly de-escalates the tension in the room.
It is written, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” — Proverbs 15:1
🔵 "𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗙𝗶𝘅𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁"
Fixing is treating your child like a broken object or a problem to be solved immediately. Feeding is treating your child like a growing plant that needs nourishment, roots, and care.
Shift your perspective from looking at a problem behavior to looking at a struggling heart. Remembering that your child is an image-bearer of God who needs a teacher—not an adversary—changes your anger into compassion.
God instructs, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” — Proverbs 4:23
