Psalm 16:4 NKJV
Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god; Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, Nor take up their names on my lips.
🔵 The word for multiplied is yarbu (יִרְבּוּ), meaning to increase, to make abundant, or to multiply.
🔵 The plural "sorrows" suggests a multitude of afflictions—physical, emotional, spiritual, and relational. Idolatry does not just bring one problem; it brings a flood of them.
🔵 The "sorrows" of idolaters are not just divine judgment but also the natural outcome of misplaced worship. When you worship money, you become anxious; when you worship power, you become paranoid; when you worship pleasure, you become empty. Idolatry multiplies sorrow because it offers what it cannot deliver.
🔵 And notice — sorrow doesn't add. Sorrow multiplies.
🔵 That's why the man who thought he was picking up one secret ends up with a double life.
🔵 That's why the woman who thought she was making one compromise wakes up with a household of consequences.
🔵 That's why the debt was one loan and now it's a lifestyle.
🔵 That's why the drink was one glass and now it's an identity.
🔵 Sin never comes alone. Sin comes pregnant.
🔵 The enemy sells you a shortcut, but he always delivers a dead end. He promises you peace, but he delivers panic. He promises you fulfillment, but he delivers a multiplied, compounded, crushing weight of grief!
🔵 I am convicting you with holy urgency today: Stop chasing the illusions of this world!
🔵 You are multiplying your own sorrows by running after things that cannot satisfy your soul. You are exhausting yourself trying to fill a God-sized vacuum with created things. It is time to stop the rush. It is time to stop the barter. It is time to close your lips to the names of the world’s false gods and open your heart to the only One who can truly heal your atz'vot (sorrows)!
🔵 So don't run to empty things. Run to Jesus! He's the only one who can give you full joy (Psalm 16:11). 😊
🔵 Declare: I will not multiply my own sorrows. I refuse every substitute god. I break agreement with every idol that promised life and delivered pain.
