A man without joy cannot give joy. A woman without peace cannot give peace. Someone who hasn't received grace cannot extend grace. As stated in 2 Corinthians 8:12, you give according to what you have, not what you don't have. Therefore, you must receive healing and wholeness from God before you can offer it to a spouse.

Wholeness is achieved when what you believe about yourself matches what God says about you. You must let the Bible be your mirror. When you are defined by God's word (loved, forgiven, beautiful, a child of God), you no longer need your spouse's validation. Insults and harsh words cannot destroy you because your identity is secure in God.

"True relationship is not two halves making a whole. It is two whole people choosing to grow together."

Do not work on your marriage; work on your wholeness first. A happy marriage is built by people who were already happy and whole in themselves.
