PART 1 | WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO LIVE BY THE SWORD?

 

n Fight to live

 

Genesis 27:40 ERV

 

“You will have to fight to live, and you will be a slave to your brother. But when you fight to be free, you will break away from his control.”

You will have to fight to get the things that you need. You will serve your brother as your master. But when you choose to turn against him, you will become free from his power over you.’

 

Sword is a device used mostly in wars and battles. To live by the sword means that your life will be a life of wars and battles. God forbid !

 

n No life of ease and luxury. A life whereby you have to hew your way with your sword.  

 

Genesis 27:40 TLB “Yours will be no life of ease and luxury, but you shall hew your way with your sword. For a time you will serve your brother, but you will finally shake loose from him and be free.”

 

n A life of hardship. A life of toiling. A life of a lot of efforts. A life of survival. A life of struggles. A life of sweat.

Isaac said to him, You’ll live far from Earth’s bounty, remote from Heaven’s dew. You’ll live by your sword, hand-to-mouth, and you’ll serve your brother. But when you can’t take it any more you’ll break loose and run free.

A "hand to mouth" life refers to living in such a state of poverty or financial instability that a person can barely afford the basic necessities—like food, shelter, and clothing—to survive.

The phrase literally means having so little that whatever you earn or receive is immediately used to meet your most urgent needs, often just putting food from your hand into your mouth.

In simpler terms:

n You live paycheck to paycheck.

n There is no savings, no surplus, and no security.

n Every resource is used immediately for survival.

n There’s constant lack, struggle, and uncertainty about the future.

"Challenges are a part of life, but we are not meant to live forever in war and battle."

2 Reasons …

 

Reason 1 | Because according to Ecclesiastes 3:8 KJV

 

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

 

Declare with me: 'In the Name of Jesus Christ, I refuse to live a life of endless war and battle! My destiny is peace, victory, and divine purpose!'

 

Reason 2 | Because when war rages endlessly, there is no possibility to build a life, a family or a nation.

 

Nothing can endure. Nothing stand. No home. No legacy.

Only rubble remains. The only construction left is fortresses—not for progress, but for survival."  

 

Look at Israel under the siege of Midian … The only thing they could build was dens, strongholds and fortresses for survival.

And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds.

"Join me in faith: 'In Jesus’ Name, I reject a life of constant battles—I walk in His peace and victory!'"  

 

Prophetic Proclamation

 

You have known only rubble and ruins (in your ministry, in your family, in your relationships, …).

You have built only fortresses—walls of fear, not monuments of faith.

Let us look at David … He couldn’t build the house of the Lord because of the battles inherited from Saul his predecessor.

Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.

 

But I like the last part …

 

“… until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.”

 

Guess what ! David was God’s firstborn

Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

 

I remember telling one of us … THERE IS NO WAY THE ENEMY WILL PREVAIL OVER GOD … NO WAY FOREVER…

Maybe you are in a season of your life like David. You are surrounded with battles on every side (health, finances, family, spiritual, emotional, …).

Living by the Sword (Human Effort) carries problems:

 

1- Exhaustion – Constant striving, yet little reward.

 

2- Frustration – Hard work without breakthrough.

 

3- Limitation – Depending only on your strength, wisdom, and connections.

 

But God declares:

"Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit" (Zechariah 4:6).

 

 

3- WHILE OTHERS CHOOSE TO HUNT AND SWEAT, YOU WILL JUST OBEY  AND SOAR!

 

If your remain connected to the Holy Spirit and Follow instructions, you will never have to live by your sword again.

THAT IS WHAT DIVINE FAVOR DOES … OTHERS HUNT, SWEAT, CUT THEMSELVES INTO PIECES … YOU JUST FOLLOW DIVINE INSTRUCTIONS AND THE RESULTS ARE JUST BREATH-TAKING!
