7 Days of Unexpected Helpers | Day 7 : Discerning Motives – Walking with Wisdom

7 Days of Unexpected Helpers | Day 7 : Discerning Motives – Walking with Wisdom

Scripture :

“And David went out to meet them and said, ‘If you have come to me in peace to help me, my heart will be united with you; but if you have come to deliver me into the hands of my enemies… may the God of our fathers look on him and rebuke him.’”

—1 Chronicles 12:17 (NKJV)

● David was open-minded, but he was not naive. When unexpected helpers came to him, he tested their motives. Did they really come to help? Or to betray?

● God sends helpers, but sometimes the enemy tries to infiltrate. Spiritual discernment is crucial. We must seek God’s guidance and be wise, distinguishing true allies from those with evil intentions. This discernment does not mean rejecting people out of fear or pride, but listening carefully to the peace God gives and affirming their fruit (1 John 4:1). When God's Spirit is present, there is peace, unity, and alignment with God's purposes.

● David's wise example invites us to be both open and cautious—welcoming help with attentive prayer. This protects us and ensures that God's work continues unhindered.

Reflection

How do you discern whom to trust? Are you open to God's Spirit guiding you in your relationships and decisions?

Prayer

Lord, grant me the wisdom to discern the motives of those who come to help me. Help me to walk in Your peace, to test every spirit, and to welcome those You send with an open but cautious heart. In Jesus' name, Amen.
