What Does It Mean to "Cope"?
● To "cope" is not merely to survive failure but to engage it with faith, learning, and divine strategy. Biblical
coping is not passive endurance—it’s active partnership with God to transform setbacks into stepping stones.
* Tip 1 : Failure Is Not Final—Rise Stronger.
Accept and understand your feelings and emotions by taking ownership of them as part of your journey to becoming stronger.
Luke 5:1 As Jesus stood beside Lake Galilee, a crowd of people pushed to get closer to him and to hear the teachings of God.
Luke 5:2 Jesus saw two boats at the shore of the lake. The fishermen were washing their nets.
Luke 5:3 Jesus got into the boat that belonged to Simon. He asked Simon to push off a little from the shore. Then he sat down in the boat and taught the people on the shore.
Luke 5:4 When Jesus finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Take the boat into the deep water. If all of you will put your nets into the water, you will catch some fish."
Luke 5:5 Simon answered, "Master, we worked hard all night trying to catch fish and caught nothing. But you say I should put the nets into the water, so I will."
Luke 5:6 The fishermen put their nets into the water. Their nets were filled with so many fish that they began to break.
● In Luke 5:2, … the fishermen were gone out of them…
Luk 5:2 And Jesus saw two ships standing by the lake …
In this text, Peter left a boat empty of fish—a symbol of futility after a night of fruitless labor.
● But Jesus saw something deeper: a vessel poised for divine purpose. While Peter fixated on scarcity, Jesus seized the moment to teach, provide, and ignite faith. The same boat that represented exhaustion to Peter became a pulpit for Christ’s Word and a stage for miraculous abundance.
- Peter’s Perspective: “Empty nets =failure.”
- Like us, Peter measured success by visible results. His empty boat mirrored his discouragement.
- Jesus’ Perspective: “Empty nets =opportunity.”
- Jesus transformed the boat into a platform for preaching (Luke 5:3) and later a cradle for a miracle (Luke 5:6).
● GOOD NEWS … What we label “lack,” God labels “launchpad.” What we label “failure” God labels “fuel”.
● Isa 62:2 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.
● 1 Co 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
● Your “empty boat” may feel like a tomb, but Jesus sees it as a womb—a place where miracles are conceived.
SAY WITH ME … FAILURE IS NOT FINAL … JEHOVAH HAS THE FINAL SAY!!!
* Tip 2 Surrender Your Plans—Embrace God’s
Luk 5:3 (ERV) Jesus got into the boat that belonged to Simon. He asked Simon to push off a little from the shore. Then he sat down in the boat and taught the people on the shore.
● Behind Peter’s failure there was a greater purpose and a bigger agenda of God for Peter’s destiny.
● Your greatest victory comes when you surrender your “proven methods” to God’s illogical instructions.
True success begins when human effort fails.
● Peter, a seasoned fisherman, had to ignore his expertise (“Fish aren’t in deep water by day!”) to obey and surrender Jesus even when it is uncomfortable.
● To cope with failure, distance yourself a little from the shore
● Separation from Distractions: Moving away from the shore symbolized leaving behind the "noise" of the world to focus on Christ’s presence and instruction.
* Tip 3 : Diagnose the Wound—Don’t Wear It
● Failure isn’t random—it’s often exposing hidden obstacles (pride, self-reliance) that God wants to destroy to elevate you.
Ask: “What caused this setback?” Not “Why am I a failure?”
● Reason 1 | God wanted to make the boat available to use it for his purpose.*
● Reason 2 | God wanted to shift Peter's paradigms
🔑 PARADIGM 1 | Success is not about working hard. Success is about working hard with the Lord in the boat and on your side.
🔑 PARADIGM 2 | Success is not about skills. Success is about skills coupled with divine instruction
🔑 PARADIGM 3 | Relocation is not always an effective alternative for success.
* Tip 4 : Act Again with God—Even With Torn Nets
* Tip 5 : Feed Faith—Starve Doubt
