REST ROUND ABOUT SERVICE. Josh 21:43-44
Introduction:
- God cannot give you land and not give you rest in it.
- The land is your family, your marriage, your job, your children.
- The Lord does not give blessings with sorrow. Prov 10:22
Chapter 1: What is rest?;
- Rest is not the absence of enemies, but the presence of enemies that are defeated, subdued. 1 Chron 22:18
- Enemies are present but are under your feet. Luke 10:19, Rev 12:4
- Rest is not the absence of storms, but quietness in the midst of storms.
- Rest is the ultimate proof of trust in God. Ps 131:2, Is 26:3
- Rest does not just happen. I must keep my soul calm and quiet. Ps 131:2
• I must therefore silence the contrary voices in my soul and spirit.
• What kills people is not what's happening to them, but in them.
• You are the first preacher of your soul.
Chapter 2: What is the origin of rest?
- The Hebrew origin of rest is Nuach that means tranquility or to be quiet.
- It is sometimes synonymous to Shabat meaning to cease or rest.
- In Greek, the word for rest is Anapausis which means cessation, refreshment.
Chapter 3: What do you need to stop to enter rest?
1. Stop Comparisons. 2 Cor 10:12
- Focus on the life that God has given you, and make the most of it.
- Quit wasting time trying to be someone you're not.
- Life is not a competition.
2. Stop Fear. Rev 1:17
3. Stop trying to change that which you can't. Prov 21:1
4. Stop trying to please everyone. Gal 1:10
- Trying to make everyone happy is a thankless, soul-sucking endeavour that leaves you drained and miserable
5. Stop worrying over what you can't control.
6. Stop begging for attention, and giving it to those that don't matter. Act 3:12
7. Stop allowing others to bring you down. 1 Tim 4:12*
8. Stop being afraid to love. 1 John 4:18
9. Stop being a victim of circumstance. Ph 3:13
10. Stop struggling to stay no. Neh 6:3
11. Stop backing down from challenges.
12. Stop being afraid of working a little harder, and giving up easily.
