SUNDAY SERMON | 24.04.2022 | THE ABSALOM CHURCH OR THE REBELLIOUS CHURCH

CHAPTER 1 | WHAT IS REBELLION?

● Webster’s defines rebellion or a rebel as someone who is (1) in an armed resistance to a government or ruler, (2) defiant of any authority, or (3) shows utter repugnance.

● In 2 SAMUEL 14-16, we find the rebellion of Absalom against his own father David. How painful it is. 

CHAPTER 2 | 5 EVIDENCES OF REBELLION?

1. Bitterness is the first evidence of a spirit of rebellion. (Deuteronomy21:18) 

The Hebrew word for "rebellious" is "marah" meaning bitter.

2. Stubbornness is the second mark of a rebellious spirit.

"If a man has a STUBBORN and REBELLIOUS son ... ( Deuteronomy21:18) 

3. Unteachableness is a third mark of a spirit of rebellion.

". . .son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them . . ." (Deuteronomy.21:18)

4. Indisciplined living is a fourth indicator of a rebellious spirit.

"They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." (Deuteronomy. 21:20)

- Some people show it by over spending their budget, others by over eating, others are habitually late for meetings, some by laziness, and not keeping the promises they make to others. 

5. Being argumentative is the fifth indicator of a rebellious spirit. (. Proverbs 26:21) 

An argument is a clash of wills. If you have a tendency to want to impose your will on others, that may be your signal that you have not dealt with your spirit of rebellion. 

CHAPTER 3 | COMPARISON BETWEEN SATAN AND ABSALOM

FACT 1 | SATAN PROCLAIMED HIMSELF TO BE GOD. ABSALOM PROCLAIMED HIMSELF TO BE KING. Isaiah 14:12-14

FACT 2 | SATAN IS PROUD. ABSALOM WAS PROUD. Isaiah 14:13, Ezekiel 28:17, 2 Samuel 14:25, Daniel 5:20, Obadiah 1:3, Mark 7:21

FACT 3 | DISOBEDIENCE,INSURBORDINATION

FACT 4 | SATAN AND ABSALOM ARE ACCUSERS. 2 Sa 15:3 KJV, 2 Sa 15:3, Rev 12:10, Zechariah 3:1 

- Absalom is a fault finding and accusing spirit. He builds his strength on others' weakness.

FACT 5 | SATAN AND ABSALOM ARE MANIPULATORS. 2 Samuel 15:5, 2 Samuel 15, 2 Samuel 15:6

● In order to get what he wants to get, a rebel uses manipulation through lies, flattery, fake compliments, intimidation, fake humility, ...

CONCLUSION

● Friends, God is the God of order and peace, not of confusion  (1 Cor 14:33) 

PRAYER POINTS

● Father,  in the Name Of Jesus Christ...

● May such spirit never be found among my children both biological and spiritual!

● Break stubbornness and cause their heart to surrender to the will of God!

● Kill pride in their heart and plant the seed of meekness and obedience!

● Make their heart as genuine as were the hearts of Timothy and Titus toward Paul
