MIRACLE 36: JESUS IS UNABLE TO PERFORM MIRACLE DUE TO MAN'S UNBELIEF
Reading : Mark 6: 5-6
If you look up the word able, it means having necessary power, skill, resources, or qualifications.
When we say, “God is able,” we are actually saying that God has the power, skill, resources, and qualifications to handle whatever situation we might face.
God is able means that "God is all powerful".
In our text today, we read the following in Mark 6: 5:
"And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed [them]."
How can we explain and understand the fact that the very same Jesus who raised the dead, changed water into wine, opened the eyes of the blind, opened the ears of the deaf, untied the tongue of the dumb, walked on the water, commanded the wind to be silent, is now not able to perform any miracle?
The reason behind Jesus' inability is not that he was deficient or was not able. The reason is because of the unbelief. We read it in Mark 6: 6
"And he was astonished at their unbelief."
What is unbelief?
Unbelief is considered in the New Testament as disobedience and, as such, is the first sin of which the Spirit convinces the world as it is written in John 16: 8-9.
"8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me"
Unbelief is an affront to God. It's an insult to God. It is another way of telling God to be liar as it is written in 1 John 5:10.
"He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
Unbelief is a form of rebellion. At the same time, it is a spiritual demonic force that causes a man to question the ability and the power of God to do what his mouth has said.
- It was because of unbelief that Israel could not believe that God was able to feed them in the desert.
"Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?' (Psalm 78:19)
- It was because of unbelief that the man sitting at the right of the king could not believe that God was able to lower the price of food in the market within 24 hours.
"Behold, [if] the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see [it] with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof." (2 Kings 7: 2)
What are the dangers of unbelief?
1) Unbelief limits the manifestation of the power of God
Matthew 13:58 "And he did not do many miracles in this place because of their unbelief."
2) Unbelief limits the manifestation of believer's spiritual authority over evil spirits.
Matthew 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
3) Unbelief makes the heart of men hard.
Mark 16:14 "Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen."
4) Unbelief exposes a man to divine wrath and places him under divine judgment.
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
PRAYER = PRAYER = PRAYER
PRAYER 1: PRAY GOD TO FORGIVE YOU FROM THE SIN OF UNBELIEF AND ASK HIM TO HELP YOU FROM IT
Read and pray with Mark 9:24 "And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief."
PRAYER 2: PRAY THAT YOUR FAITH WILL NOT FAIL.
Read and pray with Luke 22:32 "But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren."
PRAYER 3: PRAY THAT YOUR FAITH BE EFFECTIVE AND PRODUCE FRUIT.
Read and pray with Philemon 1: 6 "That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus."
Read and pray with James 2:18 "Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works."
PRAYER 4: PRAY THAT YOUR FAITH STANDS ON THE POWER OF GOD AND ON GOD ALONE
Read and pray with 1 Corinthians 2: 5 "That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God."
PRAYER 5: PRAY THAT YOUR FAITH GROWS
Read and pray with 2 Corinthians 10:15 "Not boasting of things without [our] measure, [that is], of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,It is not beyond measure, it is not the work of others, that we boast; but it is with hope, if your faith increases, to grow still more among you, according to the limits which are assigned to us,
Read and pray with 2 Thessalonians 1: 3 "We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth.
PRAYER 6: PRAY THAT YOUR FAITH BE ACTIVE AND ACTIVATED BY LOVE
Read and pray with Galatians 5: 6 "For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love."
SO SHALL IT BE!
JESUS IS LORD!
