IT IS WRITTEN in 1 John 5:14 “And
this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according
to his will, he heareth us”
The rule of prayer prescribed in the text—“… If we ask anything according to
His will ...”
It is clear this rule is intended to remind us there is to be a
limitation in our prayers. It plainly suggests there are many things which we
may not ask of God in prayer when they are not in alignment with the will of
God.
WHAT IS THE WILL OF GOD?
According
to Psalms 40:8 which says, “I
delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law [is] within my heart.”,
it is clear that God’s word is God’s will.
The
will of God is God’s original intention, God’s original purpose, God’s original
plan and God’s original design for man.
WHAT IS THE PERFECT WILL OF GOD FOR MEN?
1.
The perfect
will of God is what God has intended to do and how God has intended things to
be since the beginning.
In
Matthew 19:8 Jesus makes it clear
that there is a huge gap between how things are currently and how God wanted or
intended them to be from the beginning. Touching the divorce matter, for
example, Jesus says,
“He
saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to
put away your wives: but from the
beginning it was not so.”
2.
From Jesus’
declaration, we discover that the gap between God’s original intention in
heaven and men’s situation on the earth is rooted in the hardness of the heart.
WHAT TO DO TO PRAY ACCORDING TO GOD’S PERFECT WILL?
1)
You must hear
the Word, you must receive the Word and you must believe the Word.
John 1:12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his
name:
2)
You must put
the Word to work before it works
Mark 16:20
And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with [them], and
confirming the word with signs following.
Amen.
3)
You must thirst
and hunger for the power of God
John 7:37
In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying,
If any man thirst, let him come unto
me, and drink.
4)
You must walk
in the steps of the giants
Hebrews 6:12
That ye be not slothful, but followers
of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
5)
You must
travail and prevail in prayer
Acts 1:14
These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women,
and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
