⏩ COVENANT MONTH OF PREVAILING PRAYER ⏪ KEY 10 "BEWARE OF FAMILIARITY"

SCRIPTURE : Leviticus 10:1-2
"Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD."
KEY STATEMENT : Don't confound closeness with  God with familiarity with God. Either don't confound God as the heavenly Father with your earthly father. Also, don't lose sight of the fact that though God is the God full of love he is also the consuming fire.

Nadab and Abihu who were the sons of Aaron became too familiar with God and with the things of God. They thought that being sons of Aaron the High Priest entitled them to behave anyhow in the sanctuary. They offered strange fire at the altar before the Lord and fire went out from the Lord and devoured them there.

10 DANGERS OF FAMILIARITY WITH GOD AND THE THINGS OF GOD

1st danger :  Familiarity with God causes believers to think that God is with them and yet He has left them.
Judges 16:20 And she said, The Philistines [be] upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.

2nd danger : Familiarity causes us to look backwards at what worked in the past to copy and then recreate it.
Judges 16:20. . . I will go out as at other times before...
3rd danger Familiarity with God causes us to take things and people for granted

Luke 2:44 But they, supposing [assuming] Him to have been in the company...

4th danger Familiarity with God causes us to think that we know God while we don't know Him and miss our miracle

Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

5th danger Familiarity with God causes us to become superficial, negligent, less or not committed, less or not dependent  to God
Luke 2:44 ... and they sought Him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances.

6th danger Familiarity with God causes us to think that we are in control while we are not
Judges 16:20 . . . And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself . . .
Joshua 7:3 And they returned to Joshua and said unto him, "Let not all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labor thither, for they are but few."
Joshua 7:4 So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men, and they fled before the men of Ai
Joshua 7:5 And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men, for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim and smote them in their going down. Therefore the hearts of the people melted and became as water.
Joshua 7:6 And Joshua rent his clothes and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.

7th danger Familiarity with God causes us to sleep [become overconfident, distracted,...] while we should watch
Matthew 13:25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
Mark 14:30 And Jesus said unto him, "Verily I say unto thee that this day, even in this night, before the cock crows twice, thou shalt deny Me thrice."
Mark 14:37 And He came back and found them sleeping, and said unto Peter, "Simon, sleepest thou? Couldest thou not watch one hour?

8th danger Familiarity causes us to become so used to God and the things of God that we have no more reverence to God nor the fear of God.
2 Samuel 6:6 And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen shook it.
2 Samuel 6:7  And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah, and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

9th danger Familiarity  with God causes us to become familiar with sin, careless regarding holiness, taking the grace of God for granted
Proverbs 14:9 Stubborn fools make fun of guilt, but there is forgiveness among decent people.

10th danger Familiarity with God can lead one to hell
Luke 13:25 When once the master of the house is risen up and hath shut the door, and ye begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open unto us,’ and He shall answer and say unto you, ‘I know you not from whence ye are,’ 26  then shall ye begin to say, ‘We have eaten and drunk in Thy presence, and Thou hast taught in our streets.’ 27  But He shall say, ‘I tell you, I know you not from whence ye are. Depart from Me, all ye workers of iniquity.’
