It
is important for us to understand and to internalize the truth that the hand of
God in Scriptures is essentially, basically and fundamentally miracle, marvel
and wonder working.
We
see it in Exodus 34:10 whereby God says
to Moses, “I WILL DO MARVELS …”
Farther in the same verse God emphasizes that “…people shall see the work of the Lord”
In
Psalms 118:23, David the Psalmist
confirms this truth by saying, “This is
the LORD’S doing; it [is] marvelous
in our eyes.”
How
do you respond to the outstretched hand of God? How does God expect you to
respond to his outstretched hand?
1) God expects you not to glorify men but to glorify him
the Doer
In
the Book of Acts chapter 12, the
Bible gives us a sad story of the king Herod who horribly died eaten of worms
because he has mistaken to own for himself the glory of God.
One
day, he was arrayed in royal apparel and made a vibrant oration to the point
that the people gave a shout saying, “it is the voice of god, not of a man” (Acts 12:22).
As
soon as the people were praising him, immediately, the angel of the Lord smote
Herod and gave up the ghost.
Friends,
never ever in your lifetime make the Herod’s mistake by owning the glory that
belongs to the Lord. As long as HE IS THE DOER, he and he alone deserves the
praise, the worship, the adoration, the glory and the honour.
In
Deuteronomy 8:17, the Lord himself
warns his people telling them, “Say not then, in your hearts, my power and
the strength of my hands have got me this wealth. But keep in mind the Lord
your God: for it is he who gives you the power to get wealth, so that he may
give effect to the agreement which he made by his oath with your fathers, as at
this day.”
God expects you to fix your eyes on Him the Doer, not
on people
In the Book of Acts
3:7-8, we see the story of a 40 years old man who was marvelously healed by
the hand of the Lord through the hands of Peter.
It was so marvelous that the eyes of the people were
fixed on Peter. The Bible says in Acts
3:11, “… all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called
Solomon’s, greatly wondering.”
Unlike Herod who owned for himself the glory of the
Lord, Peter knew that the Doer of Marvels was not him but the Lord. He refused
categorically to have the eyes of people on him.
In Acts 3:12, it
is written that when Peter saw [it], he answered unto the people, “Ye men of
Israel, why marvel ye at this? Or why look ye so earnestly on us, as
though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?”
In Acts 3:13-16,
he removed the eyes of people on him and directed them to the Lord telling
them, “The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers,
hath glorified his Son Jesus … And his name through faith in his name hath made
this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him
hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.”
PRAYER POINTS
- Remember the doings of the Lord over your life and praise him for each one of them
- For not giving glory to the Lord for his doings, pray for forgiveness (Psalm 32:5)
- What do you want the marvel working hand of the Lord to do for you or for someone else? Make personal supplication and ask Him specifically with faith. (Marc 10:51)
- With expectation thank and praise the Lord for stretching his marvel working hand (Mark 11:24)
