⏩ COVENANT OF MARVELS ⏪ DAY 2 "2 MAJOR COVENANT ATTITUDES FOR A LIFE OF MARVEL"

SCRIPTURES
Psalms 115:1 Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, [and] for thy truth’s sake.
Genesis 41:16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, [It is] not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
KEY STATEMENT

It is important for us to understand and to internalize the truth that marvels are not the product of human’s hand but the product of God’s hand.

We see it in Exodus 34:10 whereby God says to Moses, “I WILL DO MARVELS …” Further in the same verse God emphasizes that “…people shall see the work of the Lord”. SO MARVELS ARE NOT SIMPLY WORDS BUT THEY ARE WORKS.

In Psalms 118:23, David the Psalmist confirms this truth by saying, “This is the LORD’S doing; it [is] marvelous in our eyes.”

What do I mean by covenant attitude?

By covenant attitude, I mean the correct, appropriate and right alignment of the heart with the terms of the covenant.

From Scriptures, it is clearly established that the state of the heart is what qualifies or disqualifies someone from being partaker of the  blessing of the covenant. In Acts 8:21, it is written,
"Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God."

God is always and will ever be faithful. When he makes the covenant to do marvels, it is 100% guaranteed that He will do because He is the Covenant Keeping God who never lies.

But the questions are and will always be in the side of men :
  • "what will be your attitude when God will do marvels as he has vowed?";
  • "will you give glory to Him and remain humble" or "will you boast as the doer";
  • "will you draw people to have their eyes on God" or "will you become the center of the world"

THE 2 COVENANT ATTITUDES FOR A LIFE OF MARVEL

1st COVENANT ATTITUDE : NEVER TAKE CREDIT FOR THE LORD'S DOING. ALWAYS TRANSFER THE GLORY TO THE DOER.

Marvels are not meant to glorify men but to glorify the Lord who is the Doer.
"And they were all amazed, and they glorified God,..." (Luke 5:26)
"And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God... " (Luke 7:16).
"But when the multitudes saw [it], they marvelled, and glorified God ..." (Matthew 9:8)
"... they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion." (Mark 2:12)

In the Book of Acts chapter 12, the Bible gives us a sad story of the king Herod who horribly died eaten of worms because he has mistaken to own for himself the glory of God.

One day, he was arrayed in royal apparel and made a vibrant oration to the point that the people gave a shout saying, “it is the voice of god, not of a man” (Acts 12:22).

As soon as the people were praising him, immediately, the angel of the Lord smote Herod and gave up the ghost.

A WORD FOR YOU : Friends, never ever in your lifetime make the Herod’s mistake by owning the glory that belongs to the Lord. As long as HE IS THE DOER, he and he alone deserve the praise, the worship, the adoration, the glory and the honour.

In Deuteronomy 8:17, the Lord himself warns his people telling them,
“Say not then, in your hearts, my power and the strength of my hands have got me this wealth. But keep in mind the Lord your God: for it is he who gives you the power to get wealth, so that he may give effect to the agreement which he made by his oath with your fathers, as at this day.”

2nd COVENANT ATTITUDE : ALWAYS DIRECT THE EYES OF PEOPLE AND KEEP YOUR OWN EYES NOT TO YOU BUT TO THE LORD WHO IS THE DOER.

Marvels are not meant to fix the eyes of people on us but on the Lord who is the Doer.

In the Book of Acts 3:7-8, we see the story of a 40 years old man who was marvelously healed by the hand of the Lord through the hands of Peter.

It was so marvelous that the eyes of the people were fixed on Peter. The Bible says in Acts 3:11,
“… all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.”

Unlike Herod who owned for himself the glory of the Lord, Peter knew that the Doer of Marvels was not him but the Lord. He refused categorically to have the eyes of people on him.

In Acts 3:12, it is written that when Peter saw [it], he answered unto the people,
“Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? Or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?”

In Acts 3:13-16, he removed the eyes of people on him and directed them to the Lord telling them,
“The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus … And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.”

LESSONS FOR LIFE
  1. God has no problem to do marvels because He is the covenant keeping God ever faithful, reliable and trusthworthy. The problem is and will always be you. BE PROPERLY ALIGNED!
  1. The grace you fail to appreciate will turn to a disgrace against you. The blessing you fail to appreciate will turn to a curse against you. ALWAYS BE APPRECIATIVE!
  1. God's purpose in doing marvels is not simply to amaze you. It is to make Himself known among men through you. ALWAYS AVAIL YOURSELF!
  1. God's glory belongs to God. Taking credit for it turns you into a thief and will ground you for life. ALWAYS BE PRAISEFUL!
