7 Days of Unexpected Helpers | Day 5 : When God Sends Former Enemies

7 Days of Unexpected Helpers | Day 5 : When God Sends Former Enemies

Scripture:

“And of the children of Benjamin, the kindred of Saul, three thousand: for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept the ward of the house of Saul.”

—1 Chronicles 12:29 (KJV)

● This verse is both shocking and powerful. Three thousand men from Saul’s own family — his tribe, his household, his loyalists — turned to help David. These were not strangers. They had likely once stood guard for Saul, the man who was obsessed with killing David.

● But in a divine twist, God turned their hearts. The same people who had reason to oppose David became part of his support system. Why? Because when God is orchestrating your purpose, even those who were once against you may be moved to stand with you.

● This is the God we serve — a God who works through the unexpected, the unthinkable, and even the uncomfortable. He doesn’t just send new people; sometimes He redeems relationships, rearranges loyalties, and repurposes past opposition for His glory.

● David could have rejected them. He could have let bitterness or fear guide his response. But he recognized something deeper was happening: God was fighting for him through the hearts of men.

Reflection

Are you willing to receive help from someone who once stood against you? Are you open to the idea that God may use a former adversary as part of your next breakthrough?

Prayer

Lord, heal my heart of past wounds so I don’t reject Your help out of fear or offense. Give me the humility to see Your hand, even when it comes through surprising vessels. I trust You to align the right people to fulfill Your purpose in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
