The Significance of the Oil and Wine – Part One

The Significance of the Oil and Wine – Part One

The Oil and the Wine are two vital items in the body of Christ. The foundation of Christianity is based upon what they stand for. But very few people are aware of their importance to your growth as a Christian, and even fewer people are knowledgeable about their healing properties when applied both physically and spiritually.olive-oil-968657_640

In my about page, I gave you a brief overview of their importance, but it is now time to take you a little deeper on the significance of the Oil and Wine. This post will be in two parts. Part one will focus on the oil while part two will be about the wine.

During the Old Testament period, the anointing oil was essential for the sacrificial worship in the tabernacle. The Lord commanded Moses to make a special oil made from olive and spices for anointing the instruments and the tabernacle.

The Lord also commanded Moses to consecrate Aaron and his sons as holy and everlasting priests unto Him. Aaron and his sons were first washed with water after which they were dressed in the priestly tunic. Moses then took the anointing oil and anointed the tabernacle and everything in it.

He sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times and anointed all its utensils. Finally, to sanctify Aaron, Moses poured the anointing oil on Aron’s head and anointed him. Then Aaron’s sons were also consecrated in a similar manner. It was only then that they were ready to sacrifice the best animals for the sin offering. (Leviticus 8)

The importance of the oil

  1. The oil was used to consecrate, cleanse and make holy.
  2. It also symbolized mercy because it was sprinkled seven times on the sacrificial altar. Seven signifies God’s mercy.olive-oil-356102_640
  3. The oil represents completion and so does the number seven. After the tabernacle was finished, Moses anointed it and all its instruments to consecrate them. Then he anointed Aaron and his sons to sanctify them so that they could minister to the Lord as priests. After the consecration was completed the glory of the Lord came down, covered and filled the temple. (Exodus 40)
  4. The glory of the Lord directed the children of Israel throughout their wilderness journey. (Exodus 40: 36-38)
  5. The oil is a reward or fulfillment of your divine destiny. (Deuteronomy 8:6-10)
  6. As long as you keep pouring in the oil, you will never run dry. (1 Kings 17:8-16; 2 King 4:1-7)
  7. When God anoints your head with oil, your blessings will always overflow. (Psalms 23:5)
  8. Your anointing will bring fresh revelation of the Word of God which will heal, deliver and gives you victory over the enemy. (Psalms 92:12-15)
  9. The oil will boost your health, strength, and vitality. (Psalms 104:15)oil-822618_640
  10. It will bring unity to you and your family and the body of Christ. (Psalms 133)
  11. The Lord will give you the oil of joy that will turn your mourning into joy. You will receive the garment of praise to replace heaviness and depression. You will be planted firmly and deeply in the soil so that you become trees of righteousness. (Isaiah 61:3)
  12. The oil will soothe and heal your brokenness (Ezekiel 16:9). Jesus also told the parable of the good Samaritan, who poured in the oil and the wine on the wounded man until he was healed and restored. (Luke 10:25-37)
  13. The oil will bring restoration. (Joel 2:25-25)
  14. The oil is the fuel of the wise. In the parable of the ten virgins, five were foolish and did not take any extra oil to meet the groom, but five were wise and took extra oil, and they were able to take part in the marriage feast while the five foolish virgins were left behind. (Matthew 25:1-13)
  15. It is a sign of your gratitude to God for the great things He had done for you in your life. The Woman in Bethany poured out her entire flask of expensive oil on the Lord’s head as a symbol of her deep gratitude to Him for delivering and making her whole. To whom much is forgiven will love much more. (Matthew 26: 6-12; Luke 7:36-50)
  16. The anointing of the oil guarantees your healing. (James 5: 13-15)
  17. The oil should be used during fasting and praying to strengthen and refresh you. (Matthew 6:16-18)

Part two of this post will explore the importance of the wine and how you can apply both to your life to receive the full benefits of God’s blessings.
