JEHOVAH QANNA ... THE JEALOUS GOD
Scripture:
"…for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God…" – (Exodus 34:14)
From this text, we learn that the name of God is Jealous. The Hebrew word for "Jealous" is qanna and appears six times in the Old Testament in Exode 20:5; Exode 34:14; Deuteronomy 4:24; Deuteronomy 5:9; Deuteronomy 6:15
For what is God Jealous?
First of all, God is most jealous for his own glory, fame, and honor! God is jealous for the supremacy of his name in this world, in this land, in your home, in your life, and in our church. It isn't your name that he is jealous to protect, but his own. Your reputation is not first on God's agenda. His is.
In Isaiah 42:8, he says, "I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images."
The jealous God is the God who alone deserves the praise and the worship. He is the only one we must bow to. When Satan was tempting Jesus to bow before him and worship him, Jesus' response was fierce and firm, "Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." (Matthew 4:10)
In the Book of Acts chapter 12, the Bible gives us a sad story of the king Herod who horribly died eaten of worms because he has mistaken to own for himself the glory of God. As soon as the people were praising him, immediately, the angel of the Lord smote Herod and gave up the ghost (Acts 12:23).
APPLICATION:
Never ever in your lifetime make the Herod’s mistake by owning the glory that belongs to the Lord. As long as HE IS THE DOER, he and he alone deserve the praise, the worship, the adoration, the glory and the honour. Never take credit for the Lord's doings. Always transfer the glory to him. Never keep it for you. Otherwise, it will kill you.
It is written in Psalms 115:1, "Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, [and] for thy truth’s sake."
PRAYER
Today, look back at your life since you were born until now. Is it by your own effort? Is it because you are stronger than anyone else? Is it because you are perfect? Is it because you are beautiful? Why can't you start counting the doings of the Lord and praise and Worship Him.
