LOVE IS PATIENT
Love is not true without patience because true love is patient. That's what Paul
says in 1 Corinthians 13: 4, "Love is patient".
One day, as they were about to enter Samaria, the Samaritans
refused to grant Jesus and his disciples access into the city. The disciples were
so frustrated and upset that they lbecame impatient that they made a prayer to Jesus Christ: “Lord, wilt thou
that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias
did?" (Luke 9:54).
Jesus never granted them the answer to their prayer. Rather, the Bible says, "he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of." (Luke 9:55)
How many times did we not make such prayers when we were
impatient toward our parents, our partners, our children, our friends, our
colleagues, our neighbors who frustrated us with their responses, their
reactions, their attitudes? How many times did we not wish that they should
die? How many times did we not ask God to send fire from heaven toward those
who harm us in one way or another?
Do you really love your wife, your husband, your children,
your church...? God says to you today, Be Patient because love is patient. Does it mean to be naïve? No. Does it mean to fold
hands and wait for things to change by themselves? No. What does it mean?
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE PATIENT?
Patient love is like the damper of a car. It is like a shock
absorber. It helps us absorb frustration. It helps us endure harm, pain or
annoyance without complaining or getting angry. It helps us be proactive not
reactive. It helps us keep the right attitude, be expectant and hopeful for the
best when everything around us seems not to go the way we were expecting them
to go.
In Luke 13:6-9, the husbandman wanted to cut off the
fruitless tree. But his workers came to inquire more time for more work expecting
things to be better in future. That is to be patient. It is to give yourself
more time to work things out by the help of God expecting better result in
future.
In conclusion, let us say that in our walk with God, when
God says "No", it does not necessarily mean "Never". It can
mean "WAIT FOR THE RIGHT MOMENT".
Indeed, after the disciples have been frustrated by the
Samaritans’ refusal in Luke 9, when the right moment came, after the Holy
Spirit came down, we read in Acts 8:1 that the door to Samaria was finally
opened.
I see God turning your frustration into celebration. I see God crowning your patience
PRAYER
POINTS FOR PATIENCE
1. You get easily frustrated, pray the
Lord to help you.
2. You easily wish others evil when
impatient toward them, pray the Lord to forgive you and help you.
3. You lose temper when things don’t go
the way you expected, pray the Lord to help you
4. You want things to be better but are
not willing to work things out, pray the Lord to help you
5. How if God was not patient toward
you? Do you think you would be saved? Do you believe that you are better than
the one you wish evil? Pray the Lord to grant you the God-kind of heart in your
relationship with others.
