THE PARAKLETOS
TEXT : John 14:16-17
“16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever– 17 “the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
INTRODUCTION
Here in this text, we see Jesus refer to the Holy Spirit as ‘another Helper’. The Greek Word translated ‘Helper’ in the New King James Bible is: ‘Parakletos’
An interesting observation is also found in that John 14:16 refers to the Holy Spirit as "another Helper." This indicates that the Holy Spirit's role in the life of a believer now is similar to what Jesus provided to His disciples during their time together on earth.
THE 7 DUTIES OF THE PARAKLETOS
The Holy Spirit is summoned by God to our side as believers to perform these seven duties found in the meaning of the word PARAKLETOS. He is summoned to be:
Our Comforter: someone who helps you to feel less worried, someone who provides consolation.
Our Counselor : A person trained to give guidance on all issues that pertains to life and godliness
Our Helper: Someone who provides assistance or aide
Our Advocate: someone who is constantly speaking in your defence, who is speaking in your favour
Our Intercessor: someone who intervene on your behalf, by praying for you the will of God.
Our Strengthener : someone who makes us stronger and Finally,
Our Standby : someone waiting on us in readiness for duty
APPLICATION
The Holy Spirit as the Paracletos was sent to be our personal friend, our fellow companion, our ever-present friend, always at hand.
When the enemy brings discouragement or worries in you, the Parakletos is there to comfort you.
When the enemy brings confusion in your life through evil advices. the Parakletos is there to guide you and provide to you the right needed counsel.
When the enemy hits you so much that you become helpless, the Parakletos is there to bring to you the assistance you need.
When the enemy accuses you, the Parakletos is there to defend you.
When the enemy weakens your prayer life, the Parakletos is there to intercede by praying for you thereby strengthening you to wake up in prayer.
When the enemy weakens you in any way (through persecution, tribulation, opposition, ...), the Parakletos is there to strengthen you so that you will be more than a Conqueror.
When the enemy surrounds you on everyside, the Parakletos is there standing by your side to fight for you.
CONCLUSION : HOLY SPIRIT, I NEED YOU ...
THE HOLY SPIRIT, *THE PARAKLETOS IS THERE IN YOU, NEXT TO YOU, FOR YOU AND WITH YOU* ...
