ELOHIM CHAYIM (THE LIVING GOD)
The name of God as Elohim Chayim “the living God,” is used thirty times in thirty verses (NKJV).
WHO IS ELOHIM CHAYIM ?
1. Elohim Chayim is the source of all life.
Only God has life in himself (John 5:26) and only God can give life to others. God does not only give life, he is the means by which all life is sustained (Genesis 2:7; Psalm 66:9; Acts 17:25).
2. Elohim Chayim is the true God who is alive in contrast to false gods of idolatry which are dead.
He sees (Job 34:21). He speaks (Hebrews 1:1-2). He listens (Genesis 21:17; Exode 2:24; Psaumes 78:59 ). He reacts toward people to reward righteousness, but also to punish evil (Galatians 6:7). He feels what men feel (Isaiah 57:15). He thinks, plans, (Jeremiah 29:11)
3. Elohim Chayim is the God of power. Although idol worshippers may attribute power to their gods, the Bible indicates that only “the living God” has power.
The power of God was recognized by the Persian king Darius after Daniel was not eaten by lions. He therefore made a decree “that ... the God of Daniel ... is the living God... who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions” (Daniel 6:25-27).
APPLICATION
When Goliath was challenging his God, David arose with anger and challenged him by asking "... who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?" (1 Samuel 17:26)
When Job was going through pain, he never allowed his pain to make him forget that God is alive. Rather, in the midst of it, he says in Job 19:25 "For I know [that] my redeemer liveth, and [that] he shall stand at the latter [day] upon the earth:"
My friend, I don't know who is the Goliath who is challenging your life. May it be a difficult spouse or child. May it be a financial challenge. May it be a health challenge. This Goliath will fall today before ELOHIM CHAYIM who is tle Living God.
In the midst of it all, can you lift up your voice today and declare like Job MY REDEEMER LIVES?
