⏩ COVENANT MONTH OF ESCAPE ⏪ DAY 19 "KEYS TO ESCAPE THE TRAP OF THE OLD PROPHET "

In 1 Kings 13:18, an old man came to a young and inexperienced prophet and said to him,
"I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spoke unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’ But he lied unto him."

Four things appear in this text concerning this cunning old man.

a) He says : "I am a prophet also"

b) He says : "An angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord"

c) He says : "Bring him back . . ." (cause him to return where he
came from)

d) But he was lying

When you read the rest of the text from verse 18 downward, it is unfortunate to consider that the inexperienced prophet could not discern that he was being misled by the old man. Instead of going forward he went backward and followed the old man. He believed what he heard from the old man but failed to hear God and finally was devoured by a lion and died.

What was the problem with this inexperienced prophet ?

a) He was not able to differentiate the voice of the Master with the voice of the stranger
John 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5  And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him, for they know not the voice of strangers."

b) He was not able to silence the voice of the stranger
2 Samuel 22:45 Strangers shall submit themselves unto me; as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me. 46 Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their secret places.

c) He was immature spiritually and therefore lacked discernment between what a man speaks in the name of the Lord and what a man speaks from God in the name of the Lord
Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to those who are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

d) He was ignorant and therefore was not able to detect the trick, the subtelity and the manipulation of the old prophet
GWV 2 Corinthians 2:11 I don’t want Satan to outwit us. After all, we are not ignorant about Satan’s scheming.
KJV 2 Corinthians 2:11 lest Satan should get an advantage over us. For we are not ignorant of his devices.
What to do to escape from the trap of the old prophet?

a) Intimacy with the Master (= set yourself apart for the Master)
John 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

b) Work on your personal growth through the study of the Word
Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to those who are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

c) Invest in knowing God amd His Word
Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to Me. Seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

MY CONFESSIONS TODAY

a) Father, I pray that you will enable me and empower me to be able to differentiate the voice of the Master with the voice of the stranger in the Name of Jesus Christ!

b) In the Name of Jesus Christ, I silence the voice of the stranger (2 Samuel 22:45)

c) Father, grant me the grace to grow spiritually thereby being able to discerne between what a man speaks in the name of the Lord and what a man speaks from God in the name of the Lord (Hebrews 5:14)

d) In the Name of Jesus Christ, I declare that the Lord will keep me from the destiny diverters on my way to my promise land.

SO SHALL IT BE!
