SCRIPTURE
Jesus saith unto him, ... Take up thy bed... (John 5:8)
KEY STATEMENT
As we continue to study this 38 years paralyzed man, we notice that Jesus gave him an order to take up his bed. What does it mean? It simply means that Jesus was instructing him to stop being a burden. Jesus was instructing him to carry what was carrying him.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that somebody reading this message today would get angry enough against poverty and mediocrity and declare with faith :
"I WILL NEVER BE A BURDEN"
When I say I WILL NEVER BE A BURDEN, it is not a slogan. It is a mindset, a principle and a lifestyle of the kingdom of God.
Jesus our Lord gives rest to those who come to him. He does not only give rest, he also gives his burden which is never and will never be grievous to anybody.
In Matthew 11:30, he says, "For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
When we read the Bible, particularly the apostle Paul, we will notice that one of his principle in ministry was the same as his master Jesus. He never allowed himself to be a burden to others.
We read in 2 Corinthians 12:14,
'Now I am ready to visit you for the third time, and I WILL NOT BE A BURDEN TO YOU, because what I want is not your possessions but you. After all, children should not have to save up for their parents, but parents for their children." ( New International Version)
Again, we read in 1 Thessalonians 2:9,
"For you remember, brethren, our labor and travail: for laboring night and day, because WE WOULD NOT BE A BURDEN UNTO ANY OF YOU, we preached unto you the gospel of God."
In 2 Thessalonians 3:8, the same Paul says again
"Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might NOT BE CHARGEABLE to any of you"
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE A BURDEN TO OTHERS ?
1) People will be tired of you and will drop you along the way.
2) You will lose respect from others.
3) You will live as a liability.
4) When you are a burden, you are not adding value to others.
5) You will never ever be happy.
6) It means you are living contrary to the principles of the kingdom.
7) You will live focused on what you can get from others rather than what you can give to others.
8) You will be given contemptuous names that will kill your dignity.
9) You will live as a slave
10) You will lack a voice in the society
WHAT TO DO TO NOT BE A BURDEN TO OTHERS?
1) BE HARDWORKING NOT LAZY
In order for Paul to not be a burden to others, he made it a lifestyle to be diligent.
"For you remember, brethren, our labor and travail: for laboring night and day, because WE WOULD NOT BE A BURDEN UNTO ANY OF YOU, we preached unto you the gospel of God." (1 Thessalonians 2:9)
"Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might NOT BE CHARGEABLE to any of you" (2 Thessalonians 3:8)
2) BE A GIVER NOT A BEGGAR
The reason why Paul was hardworking was not to get more money. It was clearly purposed for meeting not only his needs but also the needs of others who were with him especially the weak.
"Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:34-35)3) LIVE AS A SEED TO BE SOWED NOT AS A NEED TO BE MET
God has never created you as a need to be met but as a seed to be sowed which will produce more fruits.
From Jesus' perspective, God is not glorified when your needs are met but when you bear fruits. That is what he says in John 15:8
"Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples."

TODAY I PRAY THAT MY FATHER WILL MAKE YOU DILIGENT IN HEARING HIS VOICE SO THAT HE WILL SET YOU HIGH ABOVE ALL NATIONS OF THE EARTH IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST!
DECLARE AND PRAY_________________________
TODAY I PRAY THAT MY FATHER WILL MAKE YOU DILIGENT IN TEACHING AND SHARING THE WORD OF GOD SO THAT YOUR HOUSE WILL BE BLESSED BEYOND MEASURE IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST!
DECLARE AND PRAY_________________________
TODAY I PRAY THAT MY FATHER WILL MAKE YOU DILIGENT IN LEARNING HIS WAYS SO THAT YOU WILL BE BUILT IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST!
DECLARE AND PRAY_________________________
TODAY I PRAY THAT MY FATHER WILL MAKE YOU DILIGENT IN KEEPING YOUR SOUL SO THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET THE THINGS YOUR EYES HAVE SEEN IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST!
DECLARE AND PRAY_________________________
TODAY I PRAY THAT MY FATHER WILL MAKE YOU DILIGENT IN YOUR BUSINESS SO THAT YOU WILL STAND BEFORE KINGS IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST!
DECLARE AND PRAY_________________________
SO SHALL IT BE.
