SCRIPTURE
"The LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before." (Job 42:10)
"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves" (2 Timothy 3:1-2)
KEY STATEMENT
So many people never advance and get stuck in their life because of so much selfishness and self centeredness in their heart.
In the wisdom of God, your own advancement will happen only if you commit yourself to advance somebody else. In other words, you will have to cause someone else to advance so that you will also advance.
The Dead Sea is so far below the mean sea level, that it has no outlet. The water flows in from the river Jordan, but does not flow out. There are no outlet streams. It is estimated that over a million tons of water evaporate from the Dead Sea every day. Leaving it salty. Too full of minerals. And unfit for any marine life.
The Dead Sea takes water from the River Jordan, and holds it. It does not give. Result? No life at all.
Think about it.
“Life is not just about getting. Its about giving. We all need to be a bit like the Sea of Galilee.”
If we get the Dead Sea mentality of merely taking in more water, more money, more everything the results can be disastrous. Good idea to make sure that in the sea of your own life, you have outlets. Many outlets. For love and wealth – and everything else that you get in your life. Make sure you don’t just get, you give too. Open the taps. And you’ll open the floodgates to happiness.
What does it mean to be selfish?
To be selfish is to hold one's own self-interest as the standard for decision. It is to have regard for oneself above others’ well-being.
The selfish struggles to give. When he gives, his motives are never right.
1 Corinthians 13:3 (KJV) And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
Biblical cases
1st case : It was only after Job prayed for others that God turned his captivity.
Job 42:10 "The LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before."
2nd case : It was only after Hannah vowed to give to the Lord her baby boy that God opened her womb.
1 Samuel 1:11 "And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head."
1 Samuel 1:17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant [thee] thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
3rd case : It was only after the widow shared her last meal with the prophet that she activated her supernatutal provision for 3 years of famine.
1 Kings 17:13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go [and] do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring [it] unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. [...] 1 Kings 17:15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat [many] days. 1 Kings 17:16 [And] the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.
A QUESTION TO YOU : You might not have so much to offer but in which extent like that widow the little you have can be available to advance the kingdom ?
4th case : It was only after Peter gave out the boat to be used for the advancement of the Gospel that his own advancement took place.
Luke 5:3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. [...] Luke 5:6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
A QUESTION TO YOU : In which extent like Peter can you avail your boat to advance the Kingdom of God?
5th case : The 10 camels Rebeka watered are the same camels that carried her and advanced her to her God appointed husband.
Genesis 24:22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten [shekels] weight of gold; [...] Genesis 24:61 And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebekah, and went his way.
A QUESTION TO YOU : You might not have money, a boat or a house but in which extent like Rebecca your time and energy are used to advance somebody somewhere?
6th case : It was only after the Sunamite gave out her house to advance the prophet ministry that the Lord advanced her to supernatural fruitfulness.
2 Kings 4:10 Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither. [...] 2 Kings 4:17 And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.
QUESTION TO YOU : In which extent like the Sunamite your house is available to advance the interest of the kingdom of God?
7th case : When God asked Solomon to ask him whatsoever he needed, Solomon prayed for wisdom to advance the kingdom of Israel. By praying so selflessly, the Lord advanced him to a higher level of wisdom and wealth.
1 Kings 3:9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? 1 Kings 3:10 And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
QUESTION TO YOU: In which extent your personal prayers like Solomon and Job are they oriented to promote the kingdom of God?
