INTRODUCTION
In Genesis 39:7, she says to Joseph “…Lie with me…
In Genesis 39:10, “she spake to Joseph day by day…”
In Genesis 39:12 “she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me….
Despite those
many days and many ways, the Bible teaches us that Joseph firmly refused and
resisted until he escaped the temptation.
Genesis 39:8 Joseph refused …
Genesis 39:10 … Joseph hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, [or] to be
with her.
Genesis 39:12 …Joseph left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got
him out.
What does this
victory teach us about temptation?
6 KEYS TO OVERCOMING TEMPTATION
1st
key: Satan does not make you sin but he tempts you to sin. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
AND DON’T BLAME ANYONE.
What does it
mean? It means that no one falls into temptation because the devil tempts him but
because he/she gave in to it.
Therefore,
no one should point the finger on the devil or to others but on oneself.
2nd
key: Temptation is not sin. Sin is when you say “yes” to the temptation. YOU
HAVE THE POWER TO SAY “YES” OR TO SAY “NO”
Hebrews 4:15 Jesus was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet]
without sin.
3rd
key: Temptation never happens without a purpose. Only unpurposeful people fall
into it. MAKE UP YOUR MIND TO HAVE CLARITY OF PURPOSE IN LIFE.
Proverbs 16:4 The LORD has made everything for his own purpose, even
wicked people for the day of trouble.
4th
key: No temptation is ever greater than your capacity to handle it. No
temptation comes without God providing a way of escape. BUILD UP AND STRENGTHEN
YOUR INNER MAN.
1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is
common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted
above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape,
that ye may be able to bear [it].
5th
key: Overcoming temptation does not mean you are free from temptation. ALWAYS
BE ALERT AND VIGILANT.
1 Corinthians 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed
lest he fall.
6th
key: The weakness of the flesh should never be an excuse to fall into
temptation but a perfect reason to DEPEND DESPERATELY AND TIRELESSLY TO GOD’S
GRACE.
Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the
spirit indeed [is] willing, but the flesh [is] weak.
